MOTHER'S TALE is a solo performance and a search for the primordial phenomena of the mother through the fairy tale of Frau Holle. The old, scary woman with big teeth who rules a subterranean world inspired the performance artist and director Katharina Simons to enquire into the existence of a primordial mother. Why does she appear as a frightening figure? What wisdom does she hold for us? The result is an evening of fairy tales and stories that questions the fairy tale of Mother Hulda, translates it into a pop-cultural aesthetic and tells it with an old-fashioned cosiness.
The solo performance is the result of in-depth research into the desire for safety and security. Which words soothe pain and can bring about healing? Which sounds and movements scare and frighten us? And which sounds make us feel eerily cosy? An atmospheric space is created that translates the primal phenomena of the mother into word-sound and text-saying and invites us to listen to the stories that were and those that are.
